Joanne Eaton: Special Education Needs Coordinator
Hi, I am Joanne Eaton, I am the Special Educational Needs Coordinator at YEP. This means I make sure all the teachers are aware of learner’s special educational needs, and make sure they have access to training to help deliver their lessons for the individual and specific needs of their learners. I also gather evidence from teachers about any exam access arrangements needed and help apply for that from the exam boards. Keeping track of progress towards learner’s EHCP outcomes and gathering that evidence from the teachers also helps feed into the annual reviews that will support you to be prepared for your next transition.
I am also a teacher and currently teach Childcare. My class sizes are around 6-10 learners, and we sit all together around a large table. We look at the criteria or questions and resources together and discuss ideas and answers before working independently, where possible, completing worksheets, posters or activities which meet the criteria. Work is completed on Google Classroom, using laptops and submitted as a portfolio when it is all complete.
I am a mother and grandmother and like to share stories about my children and grandchildren that are relevant to things we are working on in childcare, to illustrate a point. I struggled at school, mainly with maths and didn’t go to university, to become a teacher, until I was 38! I love learning and am always completing different courses which help me with my job.
